FLT

FLT Licence

Reach & Counterbalance

RTT Group are an ITSSAR accredited training and testing provider and can offer you Reach or Counterbalance licensing and refresher training. This industry standard licence is valid for 3 years and fully transferable from job to job.

Counterbalance truck training is our most popular FLT training and the best training to undertake if you have never driven a fork-lift truck before - It has a weight to counter the load so it is spread evenly across the truck's arms making it more stable. Because the load is projected from the front of the truck, the driver can see the load in front of them.

Reach truck training is better suited to more experienced drivers and is used mainly inside warehouses where space is restricted - the load can be retracted and carried within the base of the wheels.

The licences we offer are:

  • Novice (for people who have never held an FLT licence)
  • Conversion (for someone who already holds one licence and wishes to convert to another)
  • Refresher (for people whose licence has expired)

Each licence is endorsed for trucks of up to 5 tonnes. The normal cost of such training would be between £400 and £500.

Brian - York

Brian, 42, lives in York. He has been unemployed for six months, he was employed as a water cooler technician and driver. He came to our Leeds centre to do an FLT (Fork-lift Truck) Reach course.

We had invited a recruitment partner to come in the week Brian was with us to see if they had any vacancies that the learners would be interested in filling. They had five vacancies for mobile auditors, it was a two week initial contract and were looking to start people the following Monday.

Brian was successful and is still with the company now.

Gary - Liverpool

When Gary first came to us he had serious issues in his private life. These made his attendance on the course a little hit and miss. With our support, he completed his course, vowing never to return.

A few months later he returned, and was a changed person. He said that the learning experience he had with us had made him realise that he needed to change and do something with his life. This time Gary was focused on the course, and was usually the first to arrive in the morning!

He completed the course and went on to gain his fork-lift licence. This he did so well that he was employed by DHL. He is seen as a valued member of their team and is doing well.

Malcolm - West Yorkshire

Malcolm, 38, had been unemployed since July 2008. A family man with children, he had previously been both a joiner and a driver. He wanted to change direction and do an SIA (Security Industry Authority) course with us.

He completed the learndirect side of the course and went on to do his SIA course which he passed.

He was applying for all sorts of jobs so he could get off Jobseekers Allowance, and had been working as a Special Constable. He didn't have a CV so we spent some time together, to build a detailed resume. Within the week, he was offered two different jobs, one of which could lead to a highly successful career.

IAG

We pride ourselves on finding you the pathway or courses that are right for YOU. We provide a full and complete IAG programme before, during, and after all our courses. But just what does 'IAG' mean?

The term “information, advice and guidance” (IAG) is used to describe provision, enabling both young people and adults to make informed choices about learning and work, and to enable them to review how they want to progress their careers:

Information

Information is provided on learning and work, without any discussion of the relative merits of the options, through:

• printed materials (such as leaflets)
• audio-visual materials (such as DVDs or videos)
• computer software (on CDs or by the Internet)
• verbal information delivered to the service-user face to face, on the phone or from a web-based service.

Advice

Advice over and above the information described above, usually on a one-to-one basis, is offered about learning and work. It may require an explanation of some of the information provided, how to access and use information and how to identify the need for and location of follow-on services, including in-depth services such as career guidance.

Guidance

An in-depth interview or other activity is conducted by a trained adviser, to help clients explore a range of options, relate information to their own needs and circumstances, and make decisions about their career (that is, their progression in learning and work). This guidance may include psychometric assessment.

Our IAG Policies and Procedures Guide is available to download HERE, and for further info on the quality standards we adhere to, The Matrix Standard.
